Visited the Macao Legislative Assembly

2024-10-31

On the afternoon of October 22, representatives from the fourth council and supervisory committee of the Macao and Canada Economic and Trade Association, led by founding president Carmen Kam Lun Lei and incoming president Henry Ieng Kam Chan, visited the Macao Legislative Assembly, where they received a warm welcome from Mr. Kou Hoi Ian, the Chairman of the Legislative Assembly.

Carmen Lei expressed gratitude for the continuous support from the Macao government and the Legislative Assembly, which has enabled the association to effectively serve as a platform for promoting exchanges between China and Canada, as well as internationally. Henry Chan provided a summary of the association's ten-year work, briefly introducing its expansion and practices in areas such as investment attraction, cultural education, social services, and tourism and exhibitions.

Chairman Kou Hoi Ian affirmed the association's efforts in promoting diversified development in Macao across various sectors, and he and the attendees collectively reviewed the development trajectory of Macao before and after its return to China. He explained the origins of Macao's policies, including "One Center, One Platform, One Base" and "1+4" moderate diversification, encouraging everyone to leverage Macao’s advantages under the "One Country, Two Systems" principle, showcase Macao’s strengths, meet the needs of the motherland, and attract more enterprises to drive Macao's economy. At the same time, he encouraged the association to continue playing its role as a civil ambassador to enhance trade exchanges and contribute to the construction of the motherland and Macao.

Henry Chan also consulted Chairman Kou on topics such as the legal basis and implementation of projects in the process of Macao -Hengqin integration, talent introduction in Macao, and the four major industries. The meeting was conducted in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere.

After the meeting, representatives of the association toured the Legislative Assembly's conference hall and took a group photo for memories.
