On October 25, 2024, the representatives of the fourth council and supervisory committee of the Macao and Canada Economic and Trade Association, led by the incoming president Henry Ieng Kam Chan, visited the Macao Education and Youth Development Bureau, where they received a warm welcome from Deputy Director Tsai Man-Chi and Director Ko Man-Yin.
Henry Chan first introduced the history of the association's founding and presented a ten-year work report. Since its establishment, the association has accomplished a significant amount of work, promoting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area through various fields such as economic and trade, education, conventions and exhibitions, and social services, while effectively sharing the stories of China and Macao. He pointed out that economic development requires professionals; one of the association's missions is to meet the needs of Macao’s development by broadening the international perspective and social awareness of young people while leveraging its own international platform to provide continuous learning opportunities for more individuals. To this end, the association has actively promoted exchanges between the education sectors of Canada and Macao, organized language and business training, and, at the same time, aligned with the "1+4" moderate diversification policy to attract talent to come to Macao for employment and settlement, thereby contributing to Macao.
Tsai Man-Chi expressed gratitude for the visit of the association and their efforts in talent cultivation. The Education and Youth Development Bureau has also been engaged in various work in recent years, expanding students' extracurricular knowledge through multiple channels both inside and outside of school, assisting schools in collaborating with enterprises, encouraging students to participate in social practices during holidays, and developing career plans to enhance their understanding of the motherland and the Greater Bay Area, with the hope that they will give back to the country and Macao in the future.
Both parties agreed that the economy and education should work together in concert, adopting a dual approach, and reached numerous consensus on the mutual support between the government and civil society organizations in the nurturing of talent. The atmosphere of the discussions was lively, and all participants benefited greatly.
At the end of the meeting, attendees took a group photo to commemorate the occasion.
